Drywall repair pricing makes more sense once you realize you're mostly paying for trips and dry time, not materials. A patch uses about $3 of joint compound and $8 of board — the other $150-$400 is the pro's time across two or three visits to mud, sand and finish. That's why bundling repairs is the single biggest money-saver.

Because the first patch carries the trip charge, additional patches in the same visit cost far less. Three medium patches typically run 8-10% less per patch than one, and five or more often drop 15%. If you have a list of dings, cracks and one big hole, get them all quoted together.
DIY vs Hiring It Out
Small nail pops and 4-inch holes are realistic DIY with a $20 kit. The break-even point is usually anything larger than your hand, any ceiling work, or any texture match — those are where DIY patches announce themselves under raking light.
